A drunk driver in Portland, Maine claimed she was following her GPS navigation when she made a wrong turn and crashed into a local police station over the weekend.
The 26-year-old woman drove through the Portland Police Department garage, crossed the pedestrian plaza and then attempted to drive down the stairs onto Middle Street, police said.
The woman said she was only following the directions from her GPS navigation, however responding officers said they were certain that it was her excessive blood alcohol level that led to the crash, according to the department.
Police said it was fortunate that the woman had not hit anyone during the incident. There were no injuries reported, and according to police the crash resulted in minor property damage.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, received a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Facebook users couldn’t resist poking fun at the incident.
“I’ve been really drunk before but I’ve never ‘drived by the police department’ drunk,” one user wrote.
Another said: “Maybe her GPS knew she was drunk and thought it would take her where she needed to be, instead of where she wanted to be.”
“I wish all gps put drunk drivers in jail,” another user replied.
