Kentucky Pediatrician’s Murder-For-Hire Plot Thwarted By FBI

A Kentucky pediatrician has been arrested for hiring a hitman who turned out to be an undercover FBI agent to kill her husband.

Dr. Stephanie M. Russell-52 was charged with using interstate commerce facilities to commit murder-for-hire, according to The U.S Department of Justice. She was booked into the Oldham County Detention Center on Thursday.

According to court records, Stephanie Russell believed she had contacted someone she’d hired to murder her ex-husband. However, the individual was actually an FBI Undercover Employee (UCE). Russell agreed to pay $7,000 to the UCE for the purpose of murdering her ex-husband. On May 18, 2022, she placed $3,500 in a drop box outside her medical office as half of the payment. She agreed to pay the other half once the murder took place. The FBI arrested Russell on May 19, 2022.

Russell is set to have a preliminary examination and a detention hearing on Tues., May 24.

She is facing a sentence of up to ten years in federal prison.

“There is no parole in the federal system,” prosecutors noted.

Russell and her ex-husband have been in a custody battle over their two children for at least two years, according to court documents. In 2020, a judge ruled Russell should lose custody of her children after a Guardian Ad Litem, or a person chosen by a judge to represent children in court accused Russell of ‘coaching’ her children, causing ’emotional harm’ and attempting to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband in May 2018.”
