Even after police officials released a statement that the suspect claimed that the deadly shootings were not racially motivated. National Democrats bombarded Twitter on Wednesday blaming the mass shooting spree that targeted massage parlors in Atlanta on the growing “white supremacy that has been neglected for too long” from a since-deleted tweet.
Authorities said that Robert Aaron Long, 21, took “responsibility” for a string of shootings Tuesday that left eight people dead in the Atlanta area. The 21-year-old confessed that he has a “sex addiction” and that he viewed the massage parlors as “an outlet for him” where he could be tempted.
During the press conference Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jay Baker added, “He apparently has an issue, what he considers a sex addiction, and sees these locations as … a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate.”
Baker said investigators “got that impression that, yes he understood the gravity of it, and he was pretty much fed up, at the end of his rope. Yesterday was a really bad day for him and this is what he did.”
Several National Democrats in Congress rushed to Twitter to blame “white supremacy” while the investigation was still ongoing even though two of the fatalities were White, while the other six victims were Asian Americans, according to the police.
“Imagine if he was Black, Muslim, or Latino,” Tlaib tweeted. “This is exposing white supremacy in all forms.”

“Although more information is still needed, it’s clear that the epidemic of gun violence, anti-Asian sentiment, and white supremacy have been neglected for too long and pose a grave risk to our country,” Smith wrote in a since-deleted Twitter thread where democratic Rep. Adam Smith blamed “white supremacy.”
He added: “These attacks come at a time when white supremacy and anti-Asian violence are spreading like a disease in our country. This is a direct result of the racist rhetoric centered around COVID-19 – even used by other elected officials – which directly led us to where we are today.”
Former Democratic President Barack Obama also weighed in on the shooting, tweeting that the “Identity of the victims underscores an alarming rise in anti-Asian violence.”
Even as we’ve battled the pandemic, we’ve continued to neglect the longer-lasting epidemic of gun violence in America. Although the shooter’s motive is not yet clear, the identity of the victims underscores an alarming rise in anti-Asian violence that must end.
