The Napa County Department of Corrections issued a booking photo of Paul Pelosi on Monday, showing him after his arrest on May 28 for allegedly driving under the influence.
According to court documents, Pelosi, the 82-year-old multimillionaire husband of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, drove with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of.08 percent. Requests for more information or photographs in the case had previously been turned down by the California Highway Patrol and the county sheriff’s department, citing the ongoing investigation.
Even a description of any injuries or damage to property has been kept under wraps.
“In Napa County, the decision to release or withhold mugshots or booking photos lies with the Napa County Department of Corrections, not the District Attorney’s Office,” said a spokesperson in a statement.. “In the days after Mr. Pelosi’s arrest, Napa County followed the Department of Corrections’ policy regarding the release of booking photos and mugshots. Mr. Pelosi received the same treatment under that policy that all individuals released from County Jail receive.”
According to police, the snapshot was taken around 4:30 a.m. on May 29, just hours after the CHP apprehended him near Yountville in Napa County.
According to authorities, unlike other counties in California, the Napa County Jail is not administered by the sheriff’s office. The county Department of Corrections is in charge of it, which is overseen by the Board of Supervisors.
The arrest was made when a 2014 Jeep collided with Pelosi’s 2021 Porsche at an intersection around 11:45 p.m. on May 28. There were no injuries reported at the time, and the other motorist was not arrested.
Records show Pelosi was released on $5,000 bond the next morning.
