The FBI announced late Thursday that the remains discovered Wednesday in a Florida nature preserve are those of Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito’s fiance, the main suspect of the murder of Gabby Petito thus ending the nationwide manhunt for Laundrie.
The agency verified Laundrie’s identity in a tweet, allegedly after notifying the family that a dental record comparison revealed a match.
“UPDATE: On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie,” the agency said on social media.

The FBI reportedly informed Laundrie’s family of their findings late Thursday afternoon.
“Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian’s,” Laundrie family attorney Steve Bertolino told Fox News. “We have no further comment at this time and we ask you respect the Laundrie family’s privacy at this time.”
Laundrie was reported missing in mid-September and was the main suspect in Petito’s killing. Petito was last seen in late August on a cross-country road trip with her fiancé, Laundrie.
Her bones were subsequently discovered in Grand Teton National Park, and an autopsy revealed she had been strangled.
The duo was observed together many times prior to Petito ceasing communication with her family in late August, including by police officers in Moab, Utah, who were dispatched to the site of a domestic incident involving Petito and Laundrie.
Laundrie has been missing since September the 15th.
