Stranger Topped Off Her Tank So She Called The Cops

A Michigan man has been arrested after pouring maple syrup into a woman’s gas tank last month following an altercation.

On Sunday, April 3, Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to the parking lot of a business on Werth Road in Alpena. The victim said that she and her boyfriend had been confronted by a man in the parking lot and they got into an argument.

The woman said that as she and her boyfriend were leaving later, her vehicle would not start. She told the police that she believed the man may have tampered with her car.

The officers checked the fuel cap and noticed a sticky substance that smelled like maple syrup, according to the report.

The vehicle was towed to a local garage where a mechanic confirmed the fuel pump had been clogged by a gooey substance in the bottom of the tank. The cost of the repair was more than $1,000.

Michigan police said they had made several attempts to interview the 42-year-old suspect but to no avail.

Jeremy Michael Fischer, from Ossineke, was arrested by the Alpena Police Department on May 19 during a traffic stop, just one day after a warrant had been issued.

Fischer is currently in custody at the Alpena County Jail, where he was arraigned on one count of malicious destruction of personal property $1,000 or more, but less than $20,000.

The suspect was given a $25,000, 10% cash surety.
