Tom Brady stunned the NFL world in February when he announced his retirement after his second season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he returned less than a month later.
The NFL Network reported on Sunday that Brady's final season will most likely be in 2022.
Brady made news during training camp when he took an 11-day break to attend to personal matters. He returned, telling reporters after the final preseason game that he had "a lot of s—- going on."
"I think we're all getting one day older at a time," he said previously when asked whether this would be his last season. "We're all not sure whether we're going to be here next year or not, that's the reality for every player, every coach, every parent. You just never know. We should all take advantage of the opportunity that we have."
Brady traveled to the Bahamas to "make good" on a promise he made to his wife, Gisele Bündchen, according to NFL Network. The tabloids speculated over the last two weeks that their marriage was on the rocks due to Brady's decision to return to football. But the legendary NFL star had stated that he would play until he was 45 years old, and if everything remained the same, he would do just that.
On Sunday night, the seven-time Super Bowl champion will kick off his 23rd season against the Dallas Cowboys.
Last year, the Buccaneers defeated Dallas 31-29 in Week 1. Brady completed 32 of 50 passes for 379 yards and four touchdowns.
