The policy

When we get something wrong, the correction appears at the top of the affected piece, dated, describing what was originally published and what is now correct. The piece is not quietly amended: a reader returning to it can see that it changed and why.

Every correction is also listed on this page, in full, permanently. Entries are never removed or reworded after publication.

Where an error is serious enough that the original piece cannot stand - a claim that should never have been made, rather than a detail that was wrong - the piece is retracted rather than corrected, and the retraction is recorded here with the same permanence.

Requesting a correction

Anyone can request one, and you do not need to be the subject of the piece. Send the article, the specific passage, and what you believe the correct position is - with a source if you have one - to our contact address. Correction requests are answered before any other correspondence.

If you are the subject of a piece and disagree with its characterisation rather than its facts, say so: we will record your response and, where it is warranted, publish it.

The archive

The recovered 2021–2022 archive is a separate matter. Those pieces were written by the site’s previous operator, are republished unedited with their capture provenance, and are not corrected - amending them would misrepresent what was actually published at the time. If an archived piece contains something seriously wrong or harmful, tell us and we will consider removing it entirely rather than silently rewriting the record.
