Three analytics scripts, named in full.
Google Analytics, Plausible and Ahrefs Analytics measure which pages are read; two of the three are added by our web server rather than by the site’s own code, which is why they are named here rather than left to be discovered. No advertising, no ad network, no data sold. What runs is described below, in specifics rather than in the abstract.

Who operates this site
Daily Pol is operated by Dailypol News LLC, a United States company, which is the data controller for the little data described below. Questions about this policy, and any request concerning data about you, go to [email protected].
Analytics
Since 14 August 2026 this site runs Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-2S7YH1S5LX). It loads gtag.js from googletagmanager.com, which means your browser makes a request to Google when you read an article, and Google receives your IP address, the page you are on, the referring page, and your user-agent. It sets cookies in the _ga family to recognise a returning browser, and those persist until they expire or you clear them.
Two further measurement scripts are added by our web server rather than by the site’s own code, which is why they are easy to miss and why they are named here. Plausible is self-hosted on our own infrastructure and served from this domain (/pl.js, reporting to /api/event), so it sends nothing to a third party and sets no cookies. Ahrefs Analytics loads from analytics.ahrefs.com, so it is a third-party request that carries your IP address, the page you are on and your user-agent to Ahrefs; it sets no cookies.
We use it for one thing: to see which reports are read and where readers arrive from. We do not use it to build advertising audiences, and there is no ad network on this site. What Google itself does with that data is governed by Google’s privacy policy, not by this one.
To opt out, browser-level blocking works: any content blocker that stops googletagmanager.com, or Google’s own opt-out add-on, prevents the tag from loading. The site works identically without it.
What we do not do
Beyond the measurement scripts named above, there is no other third-party JavaScript on any page: no embeds, no social widgets, no advertising network, and no fonts loaded from someone else’s server. Analytics aside, we set no cookies of our own. (Cloudflare, which fronts this site, may add its own email-address obfuscation script to pages that show an address.)
There are no user accounts and no comment system. We hold no database of readers beyond what the tag above reports to Google.
The newsletter box in the footer
There is a newsletter signup block in the footer, and it does not work. The field is disabled, the button does nothing, and there is no mailing list, no email provider and no stored address anywhere. It marks where a signup will go if this site starts publishing again.
If it is ever switched on, this page will say so - with the provider named and what they receive - before the first address is collected, not after.
Fonts
The two typefaces this site uses are downloaded at build time and served from this domain. Your browser makes no request to Google Fonts or any other font host, so no third party learns that you visited.
Search
The search page downloads a single index file from this site and then runs entirely inside your browser: the matching happens on your device and the index is never queried on our side. One caveat we would rather state than have you discover: the page puts your query in the address bar so a search can be linked and reloaded, and a URL is visible to our server logs and to the analytics above. If you would rather a search left no trace, clear the query from the address bar before the page reloads, or search from a private window.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the web server records a line for each request: the IP address, the time, the page requested, the referring page if your browser sends one, and the browser’s user-agent string. These logs exist for security and for diagnosing faults.
They are rotated daily and deleted after 14 days. They are not analysed for behaviour, not aggregated into profiles, not sold, and not shared, except where we would be legally compelled to produce them.
Third parties in the request path
Traffic to this site passes through Cloudflare, which provides DNS and protects against denial-of-service attacks, and through a web application firewall, before reaching our server. These operate on the network path and are not under our control in the way our own code is: Cloudflare processes connection metadata and may set its own bot-detection cookie. That is a property of the connection, not of anything Daily Pol asks it to do - we run no Cloudflare analytics product.
People named in the archive
The 2021–2022 archive contains reporting about named individuals, published by the domain’s previous operator and republished here as a record. If you are named in an archived piece and want it reviewed, write to us - see contact. We will not silently rewrite the record, but we will consider removing a page where there is good reason.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the revision date above changes with it. This page describes the site as it actually is today; if we ever add something that collects data - a newsletter, say - it will be described here before it ships, not after.
This policy states the site’s technical facts accurately and names its data controller, but it is written by the operator, not by counsel: it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. When it has been, this notice will say so.
