Rockfish Valley Community Center seeks $20,000 to unlock matching grant for $64,000 project
WVIR reported the fundraising need, and the center's campaign page shows the $33,000 already secured includes contributed labor.
The Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton, Virginia, is asking the public to help raise $20,000 to unlock a matching grant and complete its current outdoor campaign, WVIR reported. The center's own campaign page makes the same request.
WVIR said the total cost is $64,000, the center has raised $33,000 so far and another $20,000 is needed to unlock a matching grant of the same amount. The center's campaign page states that the $33,000 already in hand includes donations and contributed labor, so the figure is not all cash.
The campaign page names the Perry Foundation as the source of the $20,000 matching grant. It also names The Bama Works Fund of the Dave Matthews Band, the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge and the Building Goodness Foundation as supporters of the project.
RVCC CEO Sara Taylor told WVIR that community groups play soccer in the evening and on weekends, creating high demand for the field. She said it has been "difficult to find enough leveled safe space."
The page says the last major outdoor recreation project will begin early in 2027 and will include rehabbing the soccer field and adding a roof to the former batting cage to create a picnic pavilion. It frames the work as the close of 14 years of grounds improvements.
WVIR said donations can be made online at rockfishcc.org or in person at the community center.
